Brisk footfall as IIJS Signature show begins in Mumbai

  By David Brough

MUMBAI, February 10, 2019 - Turnout was high  and the overall mood was upbeat as the Signature edition of the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) kicked off amid tight security.

From opulent bridal jewellery to contemporary diamond jewellery and gold masterpieces, India’s top jewellery trade show offers trending, innovative designs.

“I thank the government for increasing the import duty on jewellery from 15 percent to 20 percent as this will not only strengthen jewellery manufacturing in India, but also give a boost to jewellery exports,” said Pramod Agrawal, Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC.)

“I am confident that India’s growing importance as an economic power will propel the growth of the Indian gem and jewellery industry around the world.”

Colin Shah, Vice Chairman, GJEPC, said: “IIJS Signature has matured over the past 11 years and its success and popularity are borne out by the fact that nearly 85 percent of the exhibitors have participated three times or more.”

Shailesh Sangani, Convener, National Exhibitions Sub-Committee, GJEPC, said: “Unceasing demand from exhibitors has transformed Signature from a niche boutique show in its initial phase to an expanded version that in many ways resembles the flagship IIJS exhibition from less than a decade ago.”

This year, the Signature show, which takes place in the Bombay Convention Centre, expects more than 18,000 trade visitors from 55 countries and 325 Indian cities.

IIJS Signature has more than 650 exhibitors occupying 1,350 booths spread over 36,000 square metres.
